Back in high school me and my friends would debate on the the ming of death note. How the shimigami world was a physical representation of going through the motions in life, having no purpose, ect. The story only starts cuz Ryuk is bored with his life, Light is bored with his life, and L chooses the criminals he catches cuz he's bored and needs a challenge. There's a bunch of other themes in the manga that make this manga great.
